Douglas Avery is renowned for his ability to capture the beauty and honesty in simple, everyday, human moments elevating their poetic nature. Douglas work is well-rounded and beautifully executed. He has a good eye for details and a great feeling for rhythm. A er graduating from NYU with degrees in Fine Art Photography and Psychology, where he interned and was later hired to light for Annie Leibovitz, Douglas began a career in high fashion photography. He honed his craft with Richard Avedon, Steven Meisel, Steven Klein and Albert Watson.
Douglas settled in London to pursue fashion photography shooting for ID, The Face and Dazed & Confused. A life long love of film lead him to also begin making short films during this period. His first short film, “Hitch,” was featured in the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at the Cannes International Advertising Festival, and launched his career as a director.
Douglas won Best New Director at the British Craft Advertising Awards for his first spots as a commercial director. His second project in the US garnered him a Clio for Best Direction and the accolades have continued ever since. Douglas works well with celebrity talent.
He has worked with some challenging ones… Sandra Bernardt, Rutger Hauer, Kylie Minogue, Kareem Abdul Jabar, among others.
Recent other work includes four spots for the U.S. Army out of McCann Erickson, New York, and two spots each for Subaru out of Carmichael Lynch, MN, Chevy out of Spike DDB, New York, and Honda Pilot for RPA, Santa Monica.
Douglas recently moved from Paris to Los Angeles with his wife and children.
